As someone who has just turned 24 and is creeping up on her 25th birthday, I admit to occasionally being more interested in celebrities than my own personal growth. It’s a habit I wish I could break, given that I should be beyond it by now. Lately, I've found myself falling into the rabbit hole of celebrity gossip, finding myself hooked on TikToks dissecting every detl about Zaya's new perfume launch or analyzing Beyonce's latest fashion choices. While these detls might seem trivial to most, they have sparked a deeper reflection on my relationship with fame and consumption.

The Cult of Celebrity: A Distraction from Reality

In the context of global crises such as the genocide in Palestine, ongoing itarian disasters in Sudan and the Congo, and the looming presidential elections in America, it feels almost ethically wrong to dedicate too much time or energy on celebrity culture. It's not that celebrities don't deserve attention; rather, I am questioning how much we should be prioritizing their lives over pressing global issues.

The Role of Celebrities in Distraction

Many stars are accused of exploiting others to achieve fame and wealth through questionable work practices and ignorant societal issues. At the same time, their presence as a form of escape from reality is no longer necessary or even potentially dangerous when we need to be actively engaged with our communities.

The Need for Awareness and Civic Engagement

We cannot afford to be bystanders in discussions about important national policies, civil rights, or global justice. The responsibility falls on each individual citizen to stay informed and active. If I sp more time analyzing the aesthetics of a music video than understanding the complexities of rights violations across borders, there is something deeply amiss.

Reevaluating Entertnment Choices

There's nothing inherently wrong with seeking entertnment. In fact, it serves as an essential respite from dly stresses. However, when these choices become prioritized over critical issues that impact society at large, it reflects a broader issue of distraction.

The Power to Empower and the Duty to Inform

Celebrities can use their influence for good – rsing awareness for important causes or using their platfor amplify underrepresented voices. Yet, the current system often fls to align this potential with the demands of public discourse.

A Call to Reevaluate Our Consumption and Awareness

We are in a unique moment where we can collectively question our relationship with celebrity culture, re-examine its role as an escape mechanism, and refocus on pressing global issues that demand attention. By doing so, we can make more informed decisions about how we consume media, sp our time, and prioritize societal responsibilities.

Taking Responsibility for Our Entertnment Choices

It’s not just about breaking away from celebrity culture; it's also about being aware of its impact and choosing content personal values and global concerns. This shift requires introspection, critical thinking, and a willingness to be informed on matters far beyond what goes into the latest celebrity wedding dress.

Let us use our attention wisely – on causes that deserve our collective care and the advancement of ity's well-being.
